What Type of Gas Does My New MAZDA Use?

If you’re not sure what the recommended Mazda CX-70 gas type is, we have the answer for you. Most Mazda models perform best when using either regular grade or premium grade gasoline, but on the Mazda CX-70, that depends on your trim level and engine. Here’s what you need to know about your engine’s recommended gasoline, courtesy of North Penn Mazda.
Regular Gasoline
Many Mazda vehicles recommend regular unleaded gasoline for regular use. This gas is typically rated at 87 octane, and it’s usually the cheapest option at the pump. Models that recommend this gas include the Mazda CX-30, Mazda3, and Mazda CX-50; Mazda CX-70 trims up to the Mazda CX-70 3.3 Turbo Premium Plus also use it.
Premium Gasoline
Other models take advantage of premium gasoline (rated at 91 octane or higher) to give you better performance and power. The Mazda CX-70 recommends this grade for the two Mazda CX-70 3.3 Turbo S Premium trims. You should also use this grade for both the Mazda CX-70 PHEV and Mazda CX-90 PHEV.
Using Another Fuel Grade
Despite these recommendations, there’s nothing stopping you from using a different grade of gasoline if that’s all you have available. However, this means you won’t get the peak performance you want. Mazda designs its engine with specific gas grades; while other grades of gas will power your car just fine, maximum speed and throttle response may change.
