MAZDA Parts 101: Troubleshooting Issues with Your Battery

April 22nd, 2025 by

Mazda parts

All of your Mazda parts require upkeep and regular service, and that includes the battery. With proper maintenance and regular inspections at North Penn Mazda, you can keep your battery charged and running for a long time. Here’s how to troubleshoot common Mazda battery issues on your vehicle.

Dead Battery

A dead battery means you can’t turn the ignition over since the battery can’t deliver the required electricity to the starter. If you notice dimmer interior or exterior lights, that’s a sign that your battery is dying. Try jumping it with another car or an electric generator.

Losing Charge

If your car successfully turns over after jumping the battery, but later refuses to start, that’s a sign that your battery can’t hold a charge properly. These batteries should be serviced or replaced immediately.

Load Testing

Load testing determines how well your battery holds electricity when it’s turned on. If you have a battery load test kit or multimeter at home, you can check how well your vehicle’s battery holds a charge. Batteries that fail a load test should be replaced, as they often won’t be able to hold a charge.

Corrosion

Battery corrosion means that your battery is leaking, which is not only unsafe but can also create electrical resistance. Check your battery terminals and connectors for any corrosion and clean or replace your battery as necessary.

Older Batteries

It’s important to check your battery after a couple of years, since that’s around the time that they should be replaced. If it’s been a while since your battery has been inspected, bring it in and our team will let you know if it’s time to replace it.
