How Often Should You Rotate Your Tires?

Hyundai Service Technician Checking Tires

If you’re unsure of when to rotate your tires, how many miles to rotate tires, or why tire rotations are important, we’ll cover everything you need to know about the subject in detail. First things first, we recommend that North Wales drivers get a tire rotation every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. That said, you should always double-check your owner’s manual for facts specific to your vehicle. Read on to learn more, and then explore our service specials to see if we’re running a special on tire rotations!

Tire Rotations on FWD and RWD Vehicles

Regardless of whether you drive FWD or RWD, how many miles to rotate your tires remains the same: 5,000 to 7,000 miles (run this by your owner’s manual, which may have different recommendations of when to rotate the tires for your car). That said, these two drivetrains require different types of tire rotations:

  • In an FWD tire rotation, you’ll want to move your right rear tire into the front left position, and your rear left tire into the front right position. That said, you’ll want to make sure not to switch sides when moving your front tires back to the rear.
  • To rotate tires on an RWD car, invert the pattern above. When moving your front tires back, flip sides, but when moving rear tires to the front, keep them on their original sides.

We recommend that you have a professional perform this service. Also note that if you do extensive off-roading or commercial driving, you’ll need to perform this service more often.

Why Rotate Tires?

Now that you know how often to rotate your tires, let’s explore why you should rotate them. Simply put, your tires will wear unevenly over the course of their life and rotating them helps to keep them wearing as evenly as possible. If one tire wears down faster, it will take on more of the vehicle’s weight than the other tires, causing it to wear more and more rapidly. When your tires are even, you greatly extend their lifespan, improve traction on slippery roads, improve fuel economy, and more!
