MAZDA Service 101: What’s Included in an Oil Change?

Mazda Service Technician Pouring Oil

Is your vehicle due for some routine maintenance? If so, it’s time to schedule Mazda service at our convenient location. Of all the routine maintenance tasks your automobile will need throughout its lifetime, oil changes are one of the most frequent services you’ll need to schedule. Luckily, an oil change is also one of the fastest tasks to complete. Contact North Penn Mazda to see how often you’ll need to schedule a service appointment.

Steps to Change Your Oil

Although it doesn’t take long to change the oil in your car, there are a lot of steps in the process. The first step our team will take is to raise your vehicle so the oil drain plug is accessible. After that, the steps follow as such:

  • Position the catch pan, remove the drain plug, and drain the oil
  • Wipe down the drain plug and oil pan, inspect the plug’s threads, and reinstall and tighten the plug
  • Remove the existing oil filter and its O-ring and clean the engine mounting plate
  • Lubricate the new oil filter and install it
  • Take off the oil fill cap and fill the reservoir with new oil
  • Put the fill cap back on, start the engine, let it run for 30 seconds or so, and look for leaks
  • Turn the engine off, lower the vehicle to the ground, and check the dipstick to ensure the oil is at the proper level

Additional Tasks

While you may think an oil change at our Mazda dealership is exactly what its name implies, it’s actually much more. When you bring your vehicle to our Mazda service center, our factory-trained technicians will check your tire pressure and inspect your tires for uneven wear. They’ll also top off your automobile’s fluids, including the brake fluid and windshield wiper fluid. You may want to schedule additional services at the same time you have your oil changed too, such as a tire rotation.

If you’re a do-it-yourselfer, you can pick up the supplies you need to change your oil in our Mazda parts department. Be sure you follow all the steps listed above to get the job done right. Be vigilant about performing the same additional tasks as well.
