Coupe vs. Sedan: What’s the Difference?

2021 Mazda3 Sedan driving on a snowy road

The most fundamental difference between a coupe and sedan is that coupes have two doors and sedans have four. That said, there are many differences to consider. Lansdale drivers can read our sedan vs. coupe overview for a more nuanced answer, and then fill out a pre-approval and contact North Penn Mazda in Colmar to set up a test drive!

Difference Between Coupe and Sedan

Aside from door count, here are the major coupe vs. sedan differences that Lansdale drivers can expect:

  • Exterior Style: Coupes have a shorter, more sloping stature that increases their aerodynamics. The front doors are longer, making it easier for rear-seat passengers to enter without struggling. You can also expect longer windows. The back of a coupe is much shorter and rounded than a sedan, however. Sedans have four similarly sized doors and a more even looking profile.
  • Performance: Since coupes are smaller and have decreased weight, they tend to turn and accelerate more swiftly than sedans. In general, you can expect sportier handling.
  • Interior Size: In most cases, sedans seat 5 and coupes seat 4. You can also expect sedans to have a much roomier second row.
  • Cargo Space: Since sedans are longer, they often offer more cargo space than coupes.

Sedan vs. Coupe: Which is for Me?

If you have a larger family, or you carpool to North Wales, a larger sedan may better suit your purposes. If you’re not that concerned about space, and you like the idea of sportier handling, we recommend a coupe. The best way to feel out the difference between a coupe and sedan is to schedule for some test drives!
